The hotel was originally a charming traditional family home, which we purchased from a family who had lived here for 2 generations and then outgrown it. We are located in “El Peñasco,” within the central historical district of the City of Oaxaca, and one of the five original barrios of the city.
Although only 6 blocks from the central square, this is not a commercial area but a friendly neighborhood with a primary school, small market, bakeries, a cafe and friendly door front eateries all within a few blocks. The church of Oaxaca’s patron saint – La Basilica de la Virgen de La Soledad – is one block away.
Donna, the owner, lived in Oaxaca in 1971, and went on to do Anthropology and cross-cultural Psychology degrees. She has also done business in other parts of Mexico and in Peru. She opened Hotel Azucenas in 1999 to serve as both a doorway to Oaxacan culture and a relaxed hospedaje for visitors to the city.
